Introducing Maskbox: Fastmail masked email, finally fast on mobile
Create, block, and delete Fastmail masked email aliases from a widget, Control Center, or Siri. Private, with no account and no backend.
Masked email is the best privacy habit most people can’t stick with. Instead of handing every website your real address, you give each one a unique, disposable alias. When one starts getting spam, or shows up in a breach, you can see exactly who leaked it and shut that address off without touching anything else.
Fastmail’s masked email is excellent. But on a phone, using it well meant digging through settings or hopping to the web every time you signed up for something. That friction is enough to make most people give up. So I built the app I wanted: Maskbox.
Create an alias from wherever you already are
Tap the Maskbox button in Control Center or on your Lock Screen and you’ve got a fresh masked address, copied and ready to paste. Or ask Siri, run it from a Shortcut, or open the app and make one by hand.
See and manage everything at a glance
Home Screen widgets show your most-used aliases. Block the ones that start attracting spam, delete the ones you’re done with, and favorite the ones you rely on. Every change is reversible and syncs straight to Fastmail.
Private by design
You connect Maskbox by signing in with Fastmail. Your password is entered on Fastmail’s own site and never touches the app. The authorization it hands back is limited to masked email, lives in your device’s keychain, and talks directly to Fastmail over HTTPS and nowhere else. No Maskbox account, no analytics, no trackers, no third-party SDKs, and — the part I care about most — no server of mine in the middle. There’s nothing for your data to phone home to.

Getting started takes a few seconds: tap Sign in with Fastmail, approve the masked email access, and your aliases load. If you’d rather look around first, there’s a demo mode that runs on sample data without signing in.
Maskbox is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. A Mac version is on the way.
