Why we started a small studio for quiet, private software, and where the name comes from.
Kojya is a small studio for software made with care. Before the apps, two things are worth explaining: where the name comes from, and what we’re trying to build.
The name
Kojya is the Sanskrit word for cosine. Long before cosine entered European textbooks, Indian mathematicians and astronomers were using jya and kojya to chart the stars, measure the Earth, and describe the rhythms of the world. The name is a small reminder that precision isn’t a recent invention. People have been chasing it carefully for well over a thousand years.
The idea
We make apps and tools in that same spirit: measured, clear, built to last. Quiet software you reach for without thinking about it, and that respects your attention instead of competing for it.
Our tagline is Ancient precision. Modern technology. We take the clarity of old knowledge systems and put it to work on today’s problems. It holds up surprisingly well.

What’s next
We’re starting small, on purpose. Our first apps are narrow, private utilities that do one job and get out of your way. The first is Maskbox, for managing Fastmail’s masked email, and you can see everything we’ve shipped on the apps page.
